Dr. Smiley believes in and loves the local church.  Since 1979, he has been engaged in pastoral ministry.  He understands the role and challenges of the local pastor and has nearly 40 years of experience to share in matters of local church ministry.

Dr. Smiley was born in Atlanta, Georgia and spent his elementary school days in Savannah, Georgia.  His high school and young adult years were spent in Gumbranch, near Hinesville, Georgia.  He has been the Senior Pastor of Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA since 1990.

God blessed Dr. Smiley with a supportive Christian wife in his high school sweetheart, Terri; they were married in 1978.  Terri is currently serving in the Children's Ministry at Lakewood Baptist Church and is extremely gifted in administration and organization.

They are the parents of two adult sons —  Brandon married to Lauren, and Tyler married to Catie.

In addition, they have four grandchildren; Sawyer, Andrew, Alice and Matthew.

Dr. Smiley enjoys flying as a licensed small aircraft pilot, umpiring small college and high school softball, and playing USTA and ALTA tennis.
